Learn about our Youth Forum Programme
For the past 3 years, young people have been able to come together to discuss their priorities and solutions for migration challenges and opportunities. We have held three Migration Youth Forums, co-hosted with IOM and UNICEF, in conjunction with the adoption of the Global Compact for Migration, and the Summits of the Global Forum on Migration and Development. These have formed the formal avenue for young people to prepare ahead of their participation and contribution to those conferences.
The Youth Forum is crucial because, unlike the diplomatic community, youth participants do not have extensive experience in navigating spaces like the GFMD. The Youth Forum provides a suitable global platform for young people to articulate their thoughts and ideas on current migration affairs that impact their lives and communities, and prepare to effectively advocate for their views at the wider GFMD Summit. It is also a space to learn about the importance of the GFMD and how to contribute to it effectively, as well as provide a solid network of support during the days of the Summit.
Enhance participants’ skills in consultations, policy and speech writing, public speaking, and facilitation to prepare youth for the GFMD Summit, as well as strengthen their work in their communities.
Provide a space to consult and consolidate youth priorities and create concrete recommendations on migration issues.
Facilitate meaningful youth participation in the GFMD Summit to influence the discussion with other stakeholders with youth priorites, examples of good practices, and proposals of concrete collaborations.

Official Youth Forum for the International Conference for the Adoption of the Global Compact on Migration
MYCP is part of the Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY) – the official, formal and self-organised space for children and youth (aged below 30) to contribute to and engage in certain intergovernmental and allied policy processes at the UN since 1992. Our mission is to bridge children and youth and the UN system, with a focus on migration issues, in order to ensure that their right to meaningful participation is realised. We do so by engaging children and youth entities in formal and informal forms in the design, implementation, monitoring, follow-up and review of sustainable development policies at all levels in four areas: Policy & Advocacy, Capacity Building, Youth Action and Knowledge.
